“Merry As Christmas”

Just a quick word about the word “merry.” I prefer: “joyous.” As in Joyous Christmas!”

To me it ushers you right into the true meaning of the celebration. It cuts past the must-do’s of the season: shopping, buying and wrapping presents, getting cards out on time. I know many people look forward to baking. I don’t have much of a knack for baking – but I sure like to eat the goodies!

Getting back to the true meaning. Gift-giving did occur at the first Christmas. But it was all symbolic and practical items for the Christ Child. He came for a Divine purpose, so the gifts were purposeful. Aside from a huge, glowing star, the celebration was humble in a stable, and low-key with strangers in attendance: modest shepherds and noble Wise Men or kings. And there were to me very special guests—the beautiful animals of the stable and fields. Cows, sheep, goats, horses, and camels were included in the most special event ever. (I’m sure some dogs and cats were there as well.)

I must add that as a writer, I find it a very inspirational time for Christmas story ideas to make their appearance from my imagination to the page as easy as a frosty morning.

With all that said:

Joyous Christmas & Happy 2020!!

Your input: What’s most special to you about Christmas?
